The Sanyo SCP-2400 for Sprint is a great new phone to replace your last trusty phone. Offered in four cool designer colors, the Sanyo SCP-2400 sports a vibrant main display, a handy external display, a crystal-clear speakerphone and a large phonebook. Plus, it offers text and instant messaging, voice memos and optional push-to-talk walkie-talkie. With all this, the Sanyo SCP-2400 is all you want and need in a trust-worthy cell phone.
The Sanyo makes a good first phone for kids or tweens, especially when combined with Sprint's parental-control and child-locator services. It's a tough little flip phone that's thin on features, but it looks like it could survive a kid's rough-and-tumble lifestyle.
Features
The SCP-2400's handsome clamshell form factor houses an internal 128 x 160, 65,000-color display. There's also a supplementary, 96 x 32 monochrome display that displays call information, battery life, time of day, signal strength and more. Above this display, the outside cover is dominated by a large speaker/microphone for speakerphone and voice recognition applications. An extendable antenna is located on the top right side of the phone, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button above the handset's dial pad. The Ready Link service is operated by a button on the left side of the phone-- walkie-talkie style. A 2.5 mm headset jack is also provided, as is a USB data port.
The phone's built-in address book allows you to assign up to 300 entries, each storing seven numbers, with a total capacity for 500 numbers and 300 email and Web addresses. You can customize your caller ID by linking a downloaded image or one of your photos to a specific phone number in your contact list. Likewise, you can associate callers with specific ringtones. And speaking of ringtones, the phone supports polyphonic (32-chord) melodic ring tones, as well as a vibrating alert. The SCP-2400's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911..Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the SCP-2400 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Sprint's digital PCS network, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas. Hands-free operation of the phone is easy with the built-in speakerphone, while voice dialing allows you to speak the names of your most important contacts and call them instantaneously. And last but not least, The SCP-2400's Ready Link feature lets you enjoy the convenience of quick, walkie-talkie style communication at the touch of a button with one or several Ready Link users anywhere you go (Sprint PCS Ready Link service charges apply).
The SCP-2400 covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text and picture messages. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
